Emergency Action Plans save lives. No one questions the need for Emergency Action Plans for medical situations in athletics. However, what happens when a student-athlete is experiencing a mental health crisis? Athletic trainers are trained to handle these situations, but what if the school does not employ an athletic trainer?

Athletic emergency action plan. An emergency action plan is only effective as its emergency team. Each member of the emergency team will have designated role in the Emergency Action Plan depending on their level of medical knowledge and training. The most qualified person on scene (the ATC or Team Physician) will take command of the emergency situation.

This Emergency Action Plan (EAP) establishes guidelines for all reasonably foreseeable workplace emergencies. Because each emergency situation involves unique circumstances, the guidelines provide general guidance only.
